Cover Supervisor

Grade: H5

Actual salary: £23,935

Start Date: ASAP

A Rewarding Role for Experienced Professionals Seeking a Fresh Direction

We are seeking a calm, confident and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our supportive and well-established school community. This role would particularly suit someone with substantial life or workplace experience, perhaps looking for a second career, a return to work after a break, or an opportunity to contribute meaningfully in an educational setting.

You do not need to be a qualified teacher. What matters most is your ability to manage a room with confidence, communicate clearly, and provide young people with structure, consistency and encouragement. Many of the skills gained in previous careers—such as leadership, organisation, problem-solving and relationship-building—transfer extremely well into this role.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will ensure continuity of learning during short-term teacher absence by supervising classes, supporting students to stay on task, and maintaining a calm, purposeful learning environment. You will be a trusted adult presence in the classroom and a valued member of our wider school team.

The role involves:

  • Supervising planned lessons using work set by teaching staff

  • Providing clear instructions and guidance to students aged 11–16

  • Maintaining good order and positive behaviour in line with school policies

  • Supporting students to work independently and confidently

  • Liaising professionally with teachers and support staff

  • Assisting with other school-based duties when cover is not required

We would welcome applications from individuals who:

  • Bring maturity, professionalism and strong interpersonal skills

  • Are confident managing groups of young people in a structured environment

  • Communicate clearly and calmly, even in challenging situations

  • Are organised, dependable and take pride in doing a job well

  • Value education and enjoy supporting young people’s development

  • Are looking for a stable, term-time role with real purpose

Experience of working with young people is desirable but not essential. We are equally interested in applicants from backgrounds such as business, public services, healthcare, the armed forces, administration or customer-facing roles, where responsibility and people skills are key.
