Geography Teacher

Full time, Permanent post

MPS / UPS Fringe £34398 - £52490

Start: January 2026

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and outstanding teacher to the position of Geography Teacher from January 2026. The successful candidate will join our flourishing and successful Humanities Faculty and will be part of an ambitious, committed and experienced team. The ability to teach the subject at Key Stage 3 and 4 is essential and previous experience of teaching A Level is an advantage. The Department follows the AQA Specifications at GCSE and A Level.

We aim to provide a Geography curriculum which promotes interest and curiosity in the world around us and inspires a sense of shared responsibility for the planet we live in.  As students progress from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, they experience a broad curriculum that develops the knowledge and geographical skills required to understand the human and physical processes that have shaped the places they have visited and those they are inspired to experience in the future. They learn key skills and processes that will enable them to appreciate the interactions between the Human and Physical worlds. Contemporary geographical issues ranging from a local development proposal to global climate change are woven throughout the curriculum.  The Department recognises the value of fieldwork in developing understanding of the route to enquiry and linking theory with reality.  Trips include a visit to Kew Gardens in Year 8, a fieldwork study day in Year 9 and an annual residential field course in Year 11 and Year 12. The Department is looking forward to visiting Iceland with a range some of our Key Stage 4 and 5 students in April 2026.

The Hemel Hempstead School is a popular and oversubscribed school on a beautiful site in the Boxmoor area. The school is close to local and national rail, bus and road links to London. Our Ofsted inspection in 2022 praised the school, especially “your values of Responsibility, Respect, Relationships, Reflection and Resilience being at the heart of the atmosphere at The Hemel Hempstead School. You prepare pupils to be courteous, considerate and capable young people, ready for the adult world.’  We are an expanding school, with 217 students in each year group and over 250 students in the Sixth Form. Our facilities are excellent with world-class sporting facilities, a brand-new music, languages and science centre and plans for further improvements across the site.

Diversity: Scholars’ Education Trust is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion.  We want to attract and retain the very best staff in all areas of the trust, ensuring our staff body reflects the diversity of our students and local community.

Further details and an application form are available from HR at hr@scholarseducationtrust.co.uk. CVs will not be accepted.

Closing date: 22 October 2025

Interview date: 24 October 2025

We reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.

Scholars’ Education Trust is an equal opportunities employer. The trust is required to give you the opportunity to voluntarily declare convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings that are not ‘protected’ as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013 and 2020). You will be provided with a criminal self-declaration form by the school if you are shortlisted for the post. All posts in schools are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
